National Curriculum in Action site helps teachers set standards

10th December 2001

Keymedia Design have collaborated with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) to design and produce the new 'National Curriculum in Action' website - www.ncaction.org.uk.

An exciting and vital resource for teachers and all those involved in planning and assessing education standards, the site demonstrates what the National Curriculum looks like in practice, displaying exemplification of levels and standards of work from pupils in key stages 1 - 3.

The site provides access to a wide selection of media, including images, audio files, spreadsheets, and video clips - actual examples of pupils' work for each subject.

The QCA is continuously collecting further examples of pupils' work, and will be using a unique content management system, created by Keymedia Design, to add these. The system simplifies the growth and maintenance of the site, allowing new content to be directly added and updated by QCA staff. The database of work will continue to grow and develop as more and more examples are added.

Visitors to the site are able to search for pupils' work by subject, attainment levels and targets, key stages and Schemes of Work, as well as free text matching.

An unique aspect of the site is 'My Portfolio'. This function allows users to collect examples of pupils work and send them to a dedicated area where they are saved for future use. They can also be printed at high quality for use off line providing a unique 'paper' resource for future reference and training. MW change

There is also a 'Music and PE' CD Rom, which accompanies the site. Giving users access to the audio and video clips without having to wait for them to download, the CD Rom will be distributed to schools and LEAs across England.

Although designed primarily for teachers and senior managers working in schools, educational inspectors, advisers, consultants, examiners and assessors will also find the site invaluable.

The site includes a discussion area that allows visitors to ask questions or compare experiences with other teachers and planners.

Christine Counsell of the University of Cambridge School of Education comments, "I think it will be incredibly useful in helping teachers… I was instantly encouraged by it and will be able to direct next year's mentors and trainees to it with real confidence."
