Share in Pearson

Brighton, 15th January 2003

Pearson plc were winners in the Proshare Awards 2002 for "Best performance in fostering employee share ownership" in companies with over 10,000 employees.

Keymedia assisted Pearson in creating their global online Share Save Scheme using the applications facility developed by Lloyds TSB Registrars. Keymedia developed a standalone multi-lingual user interface to work in conjunction with the LTSBR "back-end" system. The solution encompasses language and country specific documentation and forms and allows eligible visitors to apply online.

With 13 different share plans operating in 63 countries, every employee has the chance to become a shareholder in Pearson, which also incentivises the meeting of local and strategic business objectives.

The judges gave the Award to Pearson in recognition of their 'serious and long-term commitment' to employee share ownership and applauded the excellent use of technology. As well as share plan information being available on their intranet, there is a dedicated co-ordinator website plus other relevant information emailed to employees. The online Sharesave launch in 2002 was wholly virtual and employee queries were handled through an email help line and a link to an IFA. As a result, over 85% of UK applications were received online and 75% worldwide. Pearson employees are saving £124 per month, well above the average.

The build up to the 2003 launch has already begun and Keymedia will again be instrumental in ensuring that Pearson plc employees continue to receive an excellent service. As well as providing technical skills, Keymedia are also this year designing the Save for Shares website giving it its own identity with the Pearson branding.
