Tea Council strengthens NGfL with environmental resource
30th March 1999
Working for the Tea Council, Keymedia Design have designed and developed an exciting new site aimed at kids.
Designed primarily for Key Stages 1 and 2 pupils, the site is fun and compelling, with interactive educational games as well as valuable content that aims to educate kids about both the human body and health, and the environment around them.
Two 'guides' - 'Rosie' and 'Char' are provided to help with navigation around the site, and users are invited to email each character with their questions and comments about the site.
Under the heading 'Bio Exploration', activities include planning a healthy menu, designing a poster for the tea-council and a game that asks kids to replace organs within the body in their correct order.
The ecology area includes a word search, top-tips for energy saving, a game that allows kids to place countries of the world within the correct continent, and an interactive 'carbon calculator' that calculates the amount of carbon emissions generated by a school, and how many trees are needed to remove these emissions from the atmosphere!
The 'Plantation Game', an activity that invites children to carry out a feasibility study on the siting of a new tea plantation, is designed to help them understand environmental change and sustainable development as well as enabling them to develop their decision-making skills.
The site aims to provide teachers and children with information, but also asks the children to become suppliers of information themselves by collecting and submitting information, including information about how they spend their day to Rosie and Char. It is hoped that the children who use the site will contribute information about a typical day in their lives providing a realistic and meaningful opportunity for children to exchange information that will be of great interest and educational value.
